American Retirement Advisors Gives Back!

Yesterday our American Retirement Advisors and Futurity First team spent the morning volunteering with Packages from Home, an organization that sends care packages to our soldiers overseas!   We carefully packed a variety of snacks and candy into a box along with letters we’d written beforehand expressing our gratitude for their service.  We had a great time today working together to support our troops and are excited that we could make a small impact of the lives of our brave soldiers.

Leader of the…

Things seem to be shaping up quickly as we have had our first round of debates and who said what. It’s no surprise to anyone (except the Republican leaders) that more than one or two GOP possible candidates are in the anti-politician camp. In the DNC camp it’s seems to be Hilary as candidate, regardless of whatever has happened in the past, even though there are some other very viable Democratic candidates. Then, there are the Independents who say “No more Clinton’s or Bush’s in the White House, enough is enough”. Political Royalty? Fuhgeddaboudit. [spacer height="20px"] The DNC has options besides Hilary. While these folks aren’t exactly household names, they could become the front runners. Governor Chafe (R.I.), Governor O’Malley (Maryland), Senator Webb (Virginia) and of course Senator Sanders (Vermont). Sanders has been getting popular reviews for drawing large crowds everywhere he goes with his message. The other woman that is still in the possible DNC camp of possible candidates is Senator Elizabeth Warren (Massachusetts), even though she has repeatedly stated she will not run. [spacer height="20px"] While some in the establishment of long time GOP mainstream are scrambling to figure out what’s going on, and the DNC is waiting on results from investigations, many voters seem to know exactly what they want. And it appears what they want is someone running for president who ignores regular business as usual” in Washington. [spacer height="20px"] Over this past week the GOP “powers-that-be-temple” is showing visible signs of cracking. FOX News just released a report that shows Trump at 25%, Carson at 12%, and Ted Cruz at 10%. Even Carly Fiorina who was nowhere to be seen in the polls just months ago is now polling at 5% and has moved into 7th place. We’ll see her in the next national debate with the A-Team. Other candidates who are a tad more acceptable to the GOP mainstream machine are struggling to remain relevant in the primary. Jeb Bush has dropped below double digits to 9%, Huckabee at 7%, Scott Walker at 6% to round out the top seven candidates. [spacer height="20px"] So what about the GOP candidates with almost no pulse in the polls? They are; Kasich, Rubio, Rand Paul, Christie, Santorum, Perry, Jindal and Pataki. While it’s too early to count any of these folks as down and out, it certainly appears they are on the endangered list of also-ran’s. [spacer height="20px"] While many agree that Trump is a GOP wild card and the GOP establishment simply cannot make him go away, there is a real possibility he could win. The American public has been voting with their hearts instead of their heads lately. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Republican two time Governor of California? What about Independent Jesse Ventura Governor of Minnesota? And then there’s Comedians, such as Democrat Al Franken getting elected as a Senator? Hummmm….think about it. [spacer height="20px"] In the DNC camp the Clinton team is struggling. Hilary recently skipped a news forum for reporters that attended to hear her side of the story about the email scandal that keeps dogging her. And what about her excuse for the no show? “Regular voters don’t care about the e-mail scandal” she replied. Hummmm…. So now there’s scuttlebutt about the current V.P. Joe Biden or Al Gore preparing for a run if Hilary implodes. As the FBI has taken over the investigation we will know soon enough. But the lions are circling her camp as we speak. Bob Baer CNN and former CIA operative stated that if he had done what Hilary has done “I’d get fired the same day.” Then Baer continued “I can’t tell you how bad this is.” [spacer height="20px"] If nothing else, be prepared for some serious political entertainment over these next several months. The DNC has their National Convention in Philadelphia and the GOP National Convention is in Cleveland both in July 2016. The Libertarian National Convention is in Orlando in May 2016. Oh, and BTW, don’t bet the farm just yet……. on anything. [spacer height="20px"]

YOUR PRESENTER

[spacer height="20px"] davidFor over 14 years, David Schaeffer has been advising folks just like you on how to navigate the mysteries of Medicare.  Thousands of retirees including past employees of American Airlines, Banner Healthcare, Boeing, Honeywell, IBM, Intel, Pitney Bowes, and the State of Arizona have gone to Mr. Schaeffer for his expertise in transitioning from group and individual health plans to Medicare. [spacer height="20px"] You may recognize Mr. Schaeffer from his articles on the changes in Medicare in “The American Retirement Advisor” on Money Radio 1510am.  Additionally, he has founded several online self-service web sites to provide research previously not available to the general public, such as 123Easy Medicare.com, providing side-by-side comparisons of every choice facing a person new to Medicare.  Mr. Schaeffer is one of only 7000 retirement planners to have been awarded the Certified Senior Advisor (CSA) designation in the United States.  This designation certifies his proficiency via a 20-part program covering retirement planning and finances and, of course, healthcare planning.  Mr. Schaeffer lives in Cave Creek with his wife, Thea, and their two children; when he’s not busy educating retirees on ways to preserve their quality of life,    he likes to work on lowering his golf handicap.

Health Tip of the Month

August is Psoriasis AwarenessMonth

[spacer height="2px"] By Allie Vossoughi [spacer height="10px"] Many of us have heard of Psoriasis, but most are unsure of what exactly this disease entails.  Psoriasis is the most common type of autoimmune disease, effecting an estimated 7.5 million Americans.  It is important to know the facts about a disease that is so prevalent in our society.  Due to common misconceptions about symptoms and misunderstood causes of Psoriasis, it is important to raise awareness and spread knowledge about the disease. [spacer height="7px"] Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that occurs when a person’s body tries to fight off infection, however, the antibodies also attack normal cells.  This failed immune response causes abnormal skin growths and skin inflammation.  Although the disease is an autoimmune disorder, it can be triggered by specific events, such as skin injuries, sun damage, reactions to medications, and stress.  Genes can also make a person more susceptible to psoriasis.  A person with a parent who has psoriasis is 50% more likely to develop the disease. [spacer height="7px"] Psoriasis is a disease which symptoms mainly affect the skin, appearing as red, scaly patches of skin that crack, bleed, and cause itchiness.  The skin may appear in sliver scales as well as inflamed skin.  Common areas for this to occur in a person with Psoriasis is the scalp as well as hands and feet.  In addition, 30% of people with psoriasis develop psoriatic arthritis, causing pain and swelling of the joints. [spacer height="7px"] The most concerning side effect of Psoriasis may actually be psychological and social.  Due common assumptions combined with the visual presence of the disease, people with Psoriasis are more susceptible to developing depression as well as anxiety disorders.  People who are not familiar with the disease believe that it is contagious, and tend to discriminate against people with Psoriasis. [spacer height="7px"] Although there is no prevention or cure for Psoriasis, I think it is most important that society become informed about this common autoimmune disorder.  It would be most unfortunate for the worst symptom for someone with Psoriasis to be caused purely by our society’s false beliefs!  If you or someone you love has Psoriasis, you can participate in Psoriasis awareness month by submitting pictures and sharing stories about your journey at www.psoriasisawarenessmonth.org/.  Additionally, National Psoriasis Foundation is the world’s largest non-profit patient advocacy organization and constantly strives for a treatment and a cure for the disease.
